Press Release Body: WEB 2.0 - 10.000 bloggers wanted to celebrate the International
Day of Peace with a blog carnival. From September 11th to the 21st, a synchronized
blogging marathon will be held (with the support of social network
http://www.mypacis.com/) to discuss peace and how to achieve it together. Other
events include podcasting, activism on social networks and other Web 2.0 sites,
social experiments in Second Life.

The International Day of Peace was established by the United Nations to commemorate
and strengthen the ideals of peace, in a day of global ceasefire and non-violence.
Bloggers are invited to inform their readers that they are taking part in a ten days
marathon to celebrate the International Day of Peace, discuss peace and current
world affairs from their own prospective and invite readers to continue the
discussion in the comment area, plus track backs and posts in their blogs. Bloggers
are also invited to review and link to two-five posts published on other
participating blogs, creating a fluid hyperlinked discussion about peace.

Other events will engage podcasters in a discussion about world peace. Users of Web
2.0 services such as MySpace.com, Orkut and Facebook are invited to display the
peace dove in their profiles, such as the one which can be saved from

Some projects and tools which are part of this event will then be available on a
permanent base. This includes an open source, integrated and multi-lingual social
network promoting peace by linking people (http://www.mypacis.com/), and a social
experiment platform for Second Life (http://www.hybridlife.net/) used to test social
dynamics and improvements in a virtual environment.

\"There are thousands of projects online which can contribute to a more peaceful
world and a better society in general\" says Frank, a MyPacis.com activist. \"We do
not want to reinvent the wheel, but to contribute with all our resources to
celebrate the International Day of Peace and foster a continuous discussion about
peace, human rights and democracy. For this reason, we offer several Web 2.0 tools
and provide assistance in co-coordinating events, such as this ten days peace
blogging marathon. We hope our work will bring concrete results, and to receive
feedback from users of Web 2.0 services, internet social networks, Second Life and
internet in general\".

For the first time in history, we are in a position to end all wars by removing the
reasons for conflicts. Poverty, lack of democracy and freedom, human right
violations can be left behind us, while the world moves toward a more equal, open,
free and democratic society. While Web 2.0 activism alone cannot bring us there,
this is an effective way to start involving other people in making the world a
better place.

Everyone can contribute to this initiative by blogging, podcasting, discussing peace
on social networks, inviting mainstream bloggers to post about this initiative and
share their view on world peace. For ten days, we all have an opportunity to
reflect, discuss and find a way forward. Of the over six billions and half people of
the world, almost 18% has some form of internet access, and others can be reached by
mobile devices. Everyone who cares about world peace and wants to make a difference,
is invited to take part in this initiative using the means of communication which
are more suitable for her/him: email, blogs, SMS, etc.
